Start with a standing position holding one kettlebell straight above your head. Then take a step back with your left foot into a lunge/kneeling position with the knee on the ground and the kettlebell touching the floor behind your left buttock. While lowering your body towards the ground, reach your arm under the kettlebell and drag it across to the other side. This exercise works the obliques really well and is also a good way to lose your love handles! Be careful not to extend your arms too far out into the movement as this can put a lot of strain on the shoulder.

Repeat this sequence 12 times. This is a nice little workout that’ll really fire up the obliques and will give you a great alternative to crunches. This exercise will also strengthen your hips and the muscles that stabilize your lower back so it’s a good progression before you start working on the more advanced kettlebell swing workout. To increase the intensity you can perform this workout at a higher rep count and/or add more sets to the sequence.
